Perimeter of Plane Shapes — Worksheet Generator

Printable A4 worksheets from the Perimeter of Plane Shapes teaching tool. The sides come before the adding: a section that only asks for a missing length, then perimeter with everything labelled, then perimeter where sides have to be found first, then working backwards from a perimeter. Every figure is drawn to scale. Worksheet language prints every instruction bilingually for EAL/D students; the numerals and units stay Western and LTR.

The paper

Tick the families this paper should draw from.

Shapes says which figures may appear and Level chooses the numbers on them — they work independently, so a class on squares and rectangles alone can still meet spicy decimals, and a Sweet paper can still be all composites.

Sections — and how many of each

The order is the teaching. Find the missing side asks for one length and no perimeter at all — the commonest error is adding four numbers when the figure has six sides, so the sides are worth a section of their own. Every side labelled is then pure addition. Sides missing puts the two steps together. Work backwards gives the perimeter and takes a side away. Each section climbs its own ladder.

Options

With the reasoning prompt off, whatever the questions leave becomes a ruled Working box, so no page prints half empty. Equal sides always carry tick marks and square corners a right-angle mark — they are not optional, because without them an unlabelled side cannot be assumed equal and the question has no answer. Sides that are equal print their length once and the marks account for the rest. One side in a different unit prints a single length in mm on a cm figure — the answer must be converted first, and it only appears from Medium up. The formula reminder prints P = 2(l + w), 4s and n × s at the top of page one; it is off by default because the shortcut is meant to be earned, not handed over. The answer key gives the reason for every missing side, not just the number.
