Use the number line to show rounding as choosing the closest place-value benchmark.

Stage

Stage 4: round a decimal down through the places (whole number, tenths, hundredths…). Stage 3: round whole numbers to the nearest 10, 100, 1000, 10 000 or 100 000 — no decimals.

Direction

Zoom in: start at the biggest place and zoom in to the smallest. Zoom out: start at the smallest place and zoom out to the biggest.

Mode

On: students click to estimate, then reveal and zoom in. Off: the position is shown and you zoom in and out using the magnifier buttons on the number line.

Number

Enter a custom decimal. The tool builds the rounding steps automatically.

Examples: 321.69 or 0.284618

Move

Teacher forward is an override. The main zoom button appears after revealing the current step.
